MPac ProductsTM
Introducing MPacTMFinally, portability meets reliable backup device. Our new MPac offering is packed with serious storage capabilities and paired with the flexibility and reliability of some of our most popular solutions. "The new Highly-Reliable MPac product line delivers enterprise class backup that fits in your pocket."
Portability meets reliable backupOur first MPac offering is an MPac version of our popular DXR unit. Combining the reliability and redundancy of our DXR unit, with the portability and added failure-tolerance of our new MPac media we have created a truly superior backup solution. Inside every MPac media unit are two drives configured in a RAID 1 RAID array or optionally a RAID 0 array, yielding up to 1TB of storage per MPac! Each media unit measures 5 3/8" X 3" X 1 1/8" and weighs at most, just under a pound fully-loaded! Highly-Reliable BackupAs our name would suggest, we design our products to provide you with Highly-Reliable backup. Our new MPac unit does just that. Each MPac media drive is a RAID 1 redundant drive, and the chassis can even be configured to mirror the already redundant drives! Our products are designed to provide you with an inexpensive and reliable alternative to tape.
Our product grows with youBeing a modular unit, our MPac product line has the capability to grow with you. Only need two drives? No problem! The MPac product line will let you expand to up to ten drives later! Our product is dynamic and can change to match your growing needs. Efficiency saves you time and energyThe new MPac system is designed to maximize your time. The unit is Highly-Reliable and very easy to configure. The newest feature we've added is the inclusion of mini-usb ports on the media itself to provide rapid field access in the event of disaster recovery! Also, the new MPac product line uses energy efficient disks that power down when not in use. Our new MPac solution is designed to save you time and money! Dimensions

MPacTM Product Details
MPacs are small, internally RAIDable media that can use one or two 2.5" storage devices such as hard drives or SSD drives in a single hot-pluggabe cartridge. MPacs allow emergency field access to your data via a built-in USB2.0 connection to each individual MPacTM. In daily normal use, they intended to connect to a server or workstation via a fast eSATA connection through their various chassis. A simple backup application for example would connect our MPac 10 Bay to a computer, which would then appear as 10 individual drive volumes to that computer. Most backup software then simply backs up to the drive volume and can then be easily removed and transported safely to an off-site location for maximum protection. The hot-pluggability allows the drives to be switched in order to be used is sets (one drive for each day - Monday through Friday).
MPac Media (cartridge).
![]() Designed for high density storage or backup, the MPac's can be used as a simple to use and implement alternative to tape backup or USB drives. And, since 2.5" laptop hard drives spin down when not in use, MPac systems are energy efficient while retaining almost immediate data availability to all drives. The tiny, highly durable, all metal MPac measures only 5 3/8" X 3" X 1 1/8" and weighs as little as 15.8oz. The MPac fully encloses and protects its internal hard drives unlike many other removable storage tray designs.
MPac Media (rear of cartridge).
![]() The MPacTM drive tray holds one or two 2.5" drives (HDD or SSD up to 12.5mm thick each) and an integrated striping/mirroring SATA/USB controller board. This keeps the MPac completely self contained so that it looks just like a single hard drive volume to any connected hardware. The additional Mini USB connecters on the back of each MPac guarantee quick field access to data directly to the MPac in the field without any docking chassis via USB 2.0. The back of each MPac features a long-life hot-swap connector with SATA and power signals, plus 2 Mini-USB connectors (one connector is for extra power only) to allow for field or emergency data access. The USB feature is available on the 2 drive model only. For high security environments MPac's have an optional tab that allows them to be locked in place with a common padlock.
MPac Media dual drive RAID type.
The integrated RAID 0 capability provides maximum capacity and speed of available 2.5" SATA drives. This is especially useful for Solid State Drives - doubling the capacity of any available 2.5" X 12.5mm or thinner SATA drives. Presently, the MPac can provide up to 2TB of solid state or hard disk, hot swappable storage per MPac! For vibration resistance or high speed requirements, MPacs with SSD drives are recommended. The integrated RAID controller can also provide RAID 1 (Mirror) capability allowing for maximum reliability which is useful for magnetic type disks - one disk can completely fail and the MPac will remain on-line and fully operational.
MPac Media single drive non-RAID type.
![]() MPac's media economy scales down to a single drive unit with no RAID controller. This single drive MPaq is compatible with all MPaq systems and can work in unision with dual drive RAID MPacs in the same chassis. These units are just as durable, lighter, more energy efficient than dual drive units and are typically less than 1/2 the cost of dual drive units (when containing drives of equal capacities).
Tandem MPac 1U 2 Bay DXR Receiver Chassis.
![]() The MPac media systems are available in a variety of chassis, the most economical being an MPac version of our most popular Tandem DXR. The MPac DXR has just begun shipping. It has all the features of the Tandem DXR but uses our new MPac media. MPac media offers some of the advantages of RAIDFrame RAIDPac media (capacity, redundancy) but at nearly half the cost (or 1/4 the cost for non RAID versions) and is our smallest media format measuring only 5 3/8" X 3" X 1 1/8". MPacsTM like our other products are for backup or data storage and are built in specially designed tough all metal enclosures that use inexpensive, low power, 2.5" SATA drives.
MPac 2U 10 Bay Receiver Chassis.
![]() Our MPac chassis range between a 1 bay internal (CD-ROM footprint), 2 drive models, all the way to 10 drive models which occupy only 2U of rack space. The chassis attach directly to any server or workstation with USB or eSATA. eSATA is faster than USB 2.0 or Gigabit Ethernet.
A typical configuration of (2) common 2.5" 500GB hard drives in each M-Pac Media can be configured to hold 1TB of data (equalling 10TB total in the 10 bay enclosure).
The rest of the story
Dual port eSATA controllers are available in PCI, PCI-e, and PCI-X to allow existing servers to easily attach to the system. Backup performance is generally much higher than Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, USB drives, Internet backup, or tape. Using two striped SSD drives and imaging software, data can be moved to the system at over 260 Gigabytes per hour, or more. Drivers for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems are available. Water tight carrying cases are available to protect and simplify transporting MPacs. MPacs bring you RAID power at a convenient, extremely portable yet low cost. With the MPacTM unique media, your high capacity RAIDed backups can be as portable as a USB hard drive. Like its big brother, RAIDFrame, MPacs require no software and no special drivers to access your MPac data! And, in emergency situations, two drive MPacs can be attached via USB without a receiver chassis, in the field. Imagine, with a single lever swing and a pull, being able to HOT SWAP an entire RAID array and carry it away in a coat pocket for off-site storage and installing another in its place just as easily. Imagine a very compact removable piece of media which can provide 2TB or more of storage or redundant reliability. Imagine a family of devices all compatible with MPac media giving you the ability to custom design complete storage, backup and archival systems. You don't have to imagine any more. MPacTM is all these things and much more.
MPac systems are the ultimate compact power house of Data Backup. With their tremendous capacity, speed and portability, nothing will stop you from retrieving your valuable data fast. *Please be aware that RAID 0 arrays have a higher probability of failure than stand alone drives. However, reliability results for RAID 0 arrays consisting of Solid State drives is dramatically higher than RAID 0 arrays of standard drives because the RAID 0 SSD drives are simply larger arrays of memory and do not factor in the mechanical failure aspects as rotating media technologies do.
